Department of Bengali at a glance
The G.L.Choudhury College was established in the year 1990. The department of Bengali (Modern Indian Language) of this college has been introduced since 1990 along with other Departments. Bengali is an important language which plays a very important role in Indian literature and society. It teaches the basic knowledge about literary and linguistic views. People can gather mental pleasure spontaneous joy by reading this subject. Hence the study of Bengali literature is very necessary for interested readers. The Department has been importing education in the subject both for Higher Secondary and Degree classes.
At the initial stage (year 1990) the Department was managed by Dr. Amal Bhowmik and Dr. Tarit Choudhury as guest lecturers. Both of the teachers were lecturers in the Department of Bengali of B.H college which is about 5 k.m away from G.L.Choudhury college. When both of the lecturers were unable to attend their classes then Mr. Jagannath Barman (Ex- Principal i/c) used to take the Bengali (MIL) classes. Both of them served the Department in session 1990-1991. On 5th February 1992 Mr. Santosh Kumar Saha was duly appointed as a lecturer in the Department. Mr. S. K Saha had managed the Department single handed till 2000. On 11th August, 2000 Dr. Ananda Ghosh was appointed as the second lecturer in the Department. Mr. S.K Saha has performed his duties competently and sincerely for all round development as the Department. He retired in 31st July 2016. At present Dr. Ananda Ghosh is alone in the Department. The Department has introduced Major course (honors) in the year 2004. In August, 2006 Mr. Samir Chakraborty was appointed as a part time teacher. But Mr. Chakraborty served the Department only for five months. He left the college on (Read more)
